There are plans to expedite the immigration court cases for migrant families that are looking for asylum in the United States. The Department of Homeland Security has stated that the Biden administration is attempting to quickly hear cases from immigrants that have been apprehended at the border on or after today, May 28, 2021.
Some attorneys and immigrant advocates are wary of this decision because that could mean a rush in processing asylum cases and skimming over due process of law, as seen during Obama and Trump’s administrations. Despite these concerns, Homeland Security has assured that there will be a difference and that all migrant families will have access to legal representation and substantial amount of time to present their case to the judges.
