Affidavit of Support is Removed

Apr 16, 2021

Department of Homeland Security declared that the proposed rule of applying with an Affidavit of Support is no longer in effect. Initially, the former administration issued a guidance stating that the legal responsibilities would be directed towards the sponsor of the foreign national. The affidavit of support would have demanded for higher qualifying and evidentiary requirements, such as appropriate tax returns, credit reports, and other monetary data. However, President Biden signed Executive Order 14012, aptly titled Restoring Faith in Our Legal Immigration Systems and Strengthening Integration and Inclusion Efforts for New Americans, which invalidated the former administration’s guidance. Therefore, immigrants now applying for legal permanent residency no longer need to complete Form I-944. Recent applicants no longer need to show evidence for the aforementioned information.
